The Communication Studies program at Niagara University focuses on using the mass media to serve people's needs. At NU, our goal is to produce graduates with media skills informed by a critical analysis of how media work and what purposes they serve.
The Communication Studies curriculum brings a 21st century perspective to the study of mass media to help students appreciate the interconnectedness of what were once considered unique media systems. The program is designed to provide students with an education in the liberal arts as well as a comprehensive background in the field of communication studies. We teach our students how to write for a variety of media formats, how to produce visual media to inform or entertain, and how to do research using the latest technology. Elective offerings give students the opportunity to tailor their education to their individual career goals. Internships and extracurricular activities allow students to gain practical experience and knowledge of various media industries.
